There will be plenty of power for a 4' cutter but the front end will be a bit light when it is lifted. If the mower is set up for a regular Cat I 3-point the lift height will also be somewhat limited but that shouldn't be that big of a deal. I am basing this off of experiece with a similar Massey GC2300 and Howse 4' cutter. I don't have a FEL but it you do that will probably eliminate the light front end problem. ....

King Kutter makes a 48" rotary cutter in their XB line designed to be used by a sub-compact. I am looking at one of these right now for my BX2230.

The problem with the BX Kubota is their soft under-belly. The unprotected plastic fan under the tractor is easy to damage and very unfriendly to replace. A skid plate or grill under it would be recommended for brush cutting with a BX. ....

I just got a 42" Woods Estate Series for my BX2230 for $750. Even with the 42" the front end is light without the FEL attached, but it's manageable. I chose the 42 since it's as wide as the tractor and should make cutting trails and working around trees easier. I'm sure it would have handled the 48" though. I'm also making a protective shield for the under side to protect the fan, etc. It's kinda fun mowing down brush that's 7 to 8 ft tall!

You will still need an FEL or some front weights to maintain steering control. ....

I had a BX for awhile. With the short wheelbase pulling a small chain harrow to smooth out the driveway would lighten up the front end enough that the steering didn't always work.

I usually had to put about 125 pounds of cinder blocks in the bucket to get it to work right. ....

Hey Mark,

Been awhile but want to advise that I've done the cancer treatment thing and am getting back into tractoring...long story. Woods backhoe is on order for the 2210...finally. Drop a note as to how you're doing.

Mike ....
